What is the difference between a laser marking machine and a laser engraving machine?

The types and performance of laser equipment are also being improved and enhanced as laser technology continues to develop. Laser engraving machines as well as laser marking machines are the most commonly used laser marking equipment on the market today. A lot of people say that these two machines feel very similar, so what is the difference between laser engraving machines and laser marking machines?

There is a difference in the working principle

Laser marking machines create permanent marks on a variety of surfaces by using laser beams. The role of the mark is through the surface material evaporation to expose the deep material, or through the light energy caused by the surface material chemical and physical changes to "carve" traces, or through the light energy to burn certain substances to show the desired etching patterns and text.

Known as laser cutting machine, laser etching machine, and laserpecker pro 2, laser engraving machines can use the thermal energy of lasers to study the engraving and cutting of building materials.

The use of different lasers

Among laser labeling machines, there are CO2 laser labeling machines, laser diode labeling machines, fiber laser labeling machines, and YAG laser labeling machines. There are different types of lasers, such as metal tube lasers and YAG laser solid-state lasers, which have a service life of about 30,000 hours. Laser marking machines using fiber lasers have a laser life of up to 100,000 hours.

There are two types of laser engraving machines: non-metallic CO2 laser engraving machines and fiber metal laser engraving machines. The laser in non-metallic CO2 laser engraving machines is usually a glass tube laser that lasts from 2,000 to 10,000 hours. Using fiber laser for more than 10w hours is possible.

3. Different materials and industries for different applications

Laser marking machine with CO2 for non-metallic materials, suitable for a wide range of applications. It can permanently mark all kinds of materials with high quality. It can be found in clothing accessories, pharmaceutical packaging, wine packaging, ceramics, beverage packaging, fabric cutting, rubber products, shell nameplates, craft gifts, electronic components, leather, and many other industries. Fiber laser marking machines, however, can be widely used for metal products.

The laserpecker laser engraver has a diverse range of applications, including both non-metal and metal materials. It can be utilized for studying metal structures and also for other composite materials. This technology has a wide reach, as it can analyze various non-metallic building materials such as bamboo, wood, crystal, cow horn, cardboard, glass, marble, fabric, leather, rubber, and plastic. It also has potential in industries like clothing design, embroidery, toy manufacturing, home goods production, handbags and gloves making using leather cutting and engraving techniques. Furthermore, this technology can be applied in crafts designing, model creation, advertising campaigns, interior decoration projects and precision mechanical cutting on non-metallic boards like acrylic panels and decorative panels with medium density.

Four different levels of processing

Laser marking machines only mark the surface of an object, the depth is very shallow, generally less than 0.5 millimeters, while laserpecker 1 pro can mark a deep hole, ranging from 0.1 millimeter to 100 millimeters, and can reach deep within the object. Nevertheless, the exact depth still depends on the material.

A variety of processing speeds

Generally, laser engraving machines can cut at 200mm/s, engrave at 500mm/s, and laser marking machines can mark at three times the speed of laser engraving machines.

There is a difference in the processing process in step 6:

With the assistance of an electric lifting platform and a rotary axis, laser engraving machines can be used to engrave cylinders, profiles, spheres, and other irregular and regular objects. Q head stability control and laser marking machine optical path settings allow the platform to be adjusted up and down in focus, making it more suitable for plane engraving.

Price differences

Different configurations, such as different lasers, different power, will result in a different final price. Laser engraving machines generally have deeper engraving depths, higher power, while laser marking machines have shallower printing depths and lower laser power. Small-power laser engraving and cutting machines are much cheaper than laser marking machines, but high-power laser engraving machines are also more expensive.
